TMC is affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University and recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
Thanjavur Medical College provides exceptional teaching and learning facilities to 150 MBBS students, 70 postgraduate medical students, 29 postgraduate diploma students and 3 super specialty students every year.

The medical college offers postgraduate diploma course in Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, Anesthesiology, Child Health, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Psychological Medicine, Radio Diagnosis and Tuberculosis & Respiratory Diseases.

Thanjavur Medical College has two teaching hospitals namely Government Raja Mirasudar and Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. Thanjavur Medical College Hospital is 678-bedded hospital that provides treatment to about 850 to 1000 inpatients daily in addition to thousands of outpatients. The hospital is gradually grown up as a multi-specialty postgraduate institution. Government Raja Mirasudar has bed strength of 640. Trauma cases account for 90 percent of the inpatient admission daily in the hospital. These hospitals serve as best learning centers for the students to gain immense practical knowledge.
