Government Medical College Kottayam also known as Kottayam Medical College was established in the year 1961. The medical college is the third government-run medical college in Kerala State.

GMC Kottayam is attached to Medical College Hospital (MCH), which has a total bed strength of 1404. Medical College Hospital is a multi-bed hospital with 450 doctors and about 2,000 staff members. Huge number of Inpatient and outpatients are treated daily. The college is also associated with the Institute of Child Health (ICH), the average daily outpatients treated in this institution is 500. About 9,750 children are treated as inpatients annually. The hospital serves as a teaching hospital to the students of GMC Kottayam to impart practical knowledge and skills.
