MBBS Admission in AIIMS and JIPMER through NEET UG
Date: 09-Oct-2019The Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, has recently announced that MBBS admission in medical colleges across the country including AIIMS and JIPMER will be through NEET UG entrance exam.
He said that the common national entrance test, NEET, applicable to all institutes of national importance like AIIMS and JIPMER and common MBBS counselling as per the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act will come into effect from the next academic year (2020). This will set common standards in the field of medical education in the country.
Till now, AIIMS and JIPMER have been conducting their own entrance exams for admission to their MBBS course.
NMC Act, 2019 provides for common entrance exam (NEET) along with common MBBS counselling and a common exit exam (NEXT) which will be applicable to all medical colleges includes those of National Importance.
According to NMC Act, the NEXT result would be the base of PG medical admission and to obtain license to practice in India. It would also act as a screening test for foreign medical graduates.
