About Kempegowda Inst. of Medical Sciences:

Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences was established in the year 1980 by the Vokkaligara Sangha and is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore; Karnataka. The Vokkaligara Sangha took a formal decision on 2.9.1979 to start a medical college from the year 1980-81 and applied for permission to the Registrar, Bangalore University.

On 30.11.1980, the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. R Gundu Rao laid the foundation stone of the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital in the premises of the Sangha and announced the grant of vacant land in Banashankari to be used for the construction of college building and hostels. Thereafter, the Sangha appointed Dr M Basavaraju, Professor of Physiology as the principal on 1.1.1981 and other staff by March 1981 and classes were started regularly from the 16th of March 1981. Since then 16th March is observed every year as KIMS Day.

KIMS is recognized by the Medical Council of India permanently for running of MBBS Course since 1980-81 and also running Post-graduate degree/diploma courses since 1991-92 and these courses are also recognized by Government of India.

MBBS Course Eligibility and Admission:
  • The candidates should have passed the two years P.U.C examination conducted by the P.U Education Board, Karnataka State, with Physics, Chemistry & Biology as optional subjects; or any other examination recognized as equivalent to it by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.
  • The candidates should have passed the B.Sc examination of Bangalore University or any other statutory University provided he/she has passed the B.Sc examination with not less than three of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. 
  • The Candidates should have secured not less than 50% of the total marks in Science subjects taken altogether at the qualifying examination & NEET. 
  • However the OBC-3A category and SC/ST students of Karnataka are required to secure 40% of the total marks. 
  • The Candidate should have completed seventeen years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission.

NRI - Foreign student’s admission procedure:
  • No Objection Certificate from the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi
  • An eligibility Certificate from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore
  • Student Visa
  • Residential Certificate

Among the total number of seats available i.e. 150, will be filled by the examination results of NEET - UG Examination and entirely on merit basis. 

The remaining 15% (22 seats) will be for the N.R.I students and others and 5% (8 seats) will be for institutional preference.

  • The candidates should have passed the M.B.B.S degree examination from a recognized Medical College affiliated to any university recognized by the MCI
  • The Candidates should have completed one year of Compulsory Rotating Internship in a teaching institution recognized by the MCI.
  • The Candidates should have registered their M.B.B.S degree with the respective State Medical Council.
  • Selection of candidates for postgraduate degree / diploma courses shall be on merit basis of the rank list of the entrance examinations – conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences & NEET - PG

Infrastructure Facilities: 
KIMS has the entire infrastructure including a multi-specialty hospital providing tertiary medical care & Community Health Services. 

KIMS Hostel: 
  • The Men’s Hostel has 83 rooms and is located in the Banashankari Campus adjacent to KIMS Pre-clinical Block, Bangalore 560070.
  • The rooms are well furnished and each room accommodates 2 - 3 persons. 
  • The hostel has mess facilities serving both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. 
  • There is a round the clock vigil provided through a professional security agency and the visitors are screened and allowed inside.  
  • There is a manager in the hostel to attend to the problems of the inmates. There is a general control and discipline in the hostel and the inmates are not allowed to be away unauthorized in the night hours.
  • The current monthly charge per person is about Rs.2, 000/- which includes food and accommodation.
  • At the time of admission, an amount of Rs. 27,500/- is charged, of which Rs.15, 000/- is refundable at the time of leaving the hostel.

TRANSPORT: There are five buses including one mini bus and two Maruthi vans available for Transportation of students to and from Banashankari campus to the Hospital premises and to transport them to various training centers.

SPORTS / GYM: The college has a fully equipped health club with a 10 Station Multi-Gym, two Treadmills and Steppers and a Trained Instructor. The Health Club is open to all students of KIMS from 6:00AM to 8:00PM. 

Indoor Games like Chess, Carom and Table tennis are also available. 

The New Sports Complex coming up will house two Synthetic Tennis Courts, Basketball and Volleyball Courts and an Amphitheatre.

KIMS Co-Operative Society: The KIMS Co-Operative Society was started in the year 1981. It caters to the needs of students and staff in their requirement of books, stationary and other articles at concessional prices. 

Canteen: The Hospital Canteen Sri Nidhi Sagar caters to the need of Faculty, Students and staff at KIMS Hospital. A new canteen with modern amenities is open at the college campus.

Bank/ATM: Punjab National Bank: Punjab National Bank is situated in the college campus to cater to the banking need of the students. ATM facilities are available. ATM's of Corporation Bank, Canara Bank, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank are situated surrounding the college premises. Syndicate Bank, BIT Branch caters to the need of students in the Hospital premises
