Candidates who fulfill the below given criteria are eligible for NIMHANS PG entrance exam:

  • Candidate must have obtained MBBS degree or Diploma in Psychiatric Medicine from a medical college recognized by MCI
  • Candidate must have completed compulsory rotation internship of one year after MBBS or its equivalent as recognized by MCI on or before the date of commencement of course.
  • Candidate must have permanent registration with State Medical Council
  • Candidate belonging to Domicile of Karnataka can apply under ‘Karnataka Domicile Category’
  • Candidate who is permanent employee sponsored/deputed by the Karnataka State Government or Public Sector Undertaking of Karnataka State Government or Institution/University can apply through Sponsorship/Deputation Category under Karnataka India Category
  • Candidate belonging to Domicile of Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura & Uttarakhand states, can apply under ‘North Eastern Domicile Category’
  • Candidate who is permanent employee sponsored/deputed by the State/Central Government or Public Sector Undertaking of State/Central Government or Institution/University can apply through Sponsorship/Deputation Category under All India Category

All Foreign Nationals and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) should apply under “Foreign National” category. The criteria for Foreign Nationals to apply for NIMHANS PG exam are as follows:

  • Candidate must have primary medical qualification recognized by MCI
  • Candidate must have registered their MBBS degree in the Medical Council or respective equivalent bodied of their countries and have to take prior permission from MCI before applying for MD Psychiatry course in NIMHANS

The procedure for online application submission is as follows:

  • Application should be submitted through the online mode along with all the enclosures and photograph
  • Candidate has to select three cities for taking examination in the order of priority. 
  • Employee of State/Central Govt. or of any Public Sector Undertaking of State/Central Govt. should send their application through their employers. However, the advance copy of the application can be submitted. In case the application is not received through the employer before the date of NIMHANS online entrance test, a No Objection Certificate from the employer should be produced at the time of interview/PG medical admission failing which the candidate will not be admitted

NIMHANS conducts a common online entrance test (for candidates applying for MD Psychiatry, DM Neurology and M.Ch Neurosurgery) of 60 minutes duration with 70 MCQs followed by an online entrance test (for candidates applying for MD Psychiatry) of 30 minutes duration with 30 MCQs for each domain.
